History of Computing
Material I wrote or participated writing for the course CSEP 599 History of Computing. It was a very interesting and diverse lecture, with many people directly involved in the history of computing, such as Steve Wozniak, Gordon Bell or Butler Lampson.
The Origins of Software - Summary
A six pages summary about the origins of software, and lessons that could possibly be learnt from that part of history.
Written in cooperation with Sandra Lemon.
Standard Wars - Project Paper
A 26-pages paper focussing on several aspects of standards. We have a look at different definitions of standards (in computer science), how standard wars occur, what tactics can be employed, and what is needed to win a standard war. We illustrate these points with four case studies: Audioformats (Ogg Vorbis, MP3, WMA), VoIP (SIP, H.323), Mac vs. Windows and TCP/IP vs. OSI.
Written in cooperation with Gleb Krivosheev, Noor Singh and Jeff Bilger.
World War 2 ciphering and code-breaking
We had some real cipher machines in class, demonstrated by Mike Koss. Click the thumbnail to see some pictures I took.
